Essex confirm Bopara and ten Doeschate as new captains
Essex has confirmed Ravi Bopara and Ryan ten Doeschate as their new captains for the upcoming season, with the former being the one-day skipper and the latter becoming the new club captain.
Ravi Bopara, who, aside from representing Essex all of his career, has played for England in all forms of the game, as well as having spent considerable time over the last few years in the Big Bash league as well as the IPL. He will bring his county some great one-day game experience, as well as the consistent ability to both bat and bowl at all levels for club and country.
Ten Doeschate, who has been the captain of the one-day side for the last two campaigns, will bring a lot of experience at the age of 35. The South-African born Netherlands international cricketer has been at the club since 2002 and has become a fan favourite. He will be replacing James Taylor as the County Championship captain, and as another adept all-rounder, will be able to use his experience as well as his batting and bowling skills to try to improve Essex this time around in all formats.
