England recovered from a poor start to finish up on 258-7 at the end of the first day of the Chittagong Test Match.

A compelling day’s cricket saw England’s middle order drag them back into the game and insight of a competitive first innings total.

This was despite the best efforts of Bangladesh’s teenage spin sensation Mehedi Hasan, who stole the show on his Test debut finishing up with an incredible 5-64 from his 33 overs.

Despite winning the toss and opting to bat, England struggled early on and slipped to 21-3, However, a strong middle order performance spearheaded by Moeen Ali ensured that the tourists reached stumps with three wickets in hand.

England handed a debut to Ben Duckett and opted top play three spinners with Adil Rashid and veteran Gareth Batty returning to the team to back up Ali in the spin department.

The game is finely poised now with both teams happy with their efforts in the searing Chittagong heat.

I’ve take a look at three things we’ve learned on what was an enthralling opening day.
