Liam Livingstone and Mason Crane lead the group of five uncapped players who have been named in England’s Twenty20 squad for the upcoming series against South Africa.

Dawid Malan, Tom Curran and Craig Overton are the other new faces in the squad as England have opted to rest Ben Stokes and Joe Root ahead of the Test Series against the same opponents.

Moeen Ali, Jake Ball and Adil Rashid are also excluded from the squad, and along with Stokes and Root are expected to feature in the inaugural round of day/night county championship games which kick off on the 26th of June.

With a day/night Test Match against West Indies taking place in August, the selectors have taken the opportunity to field as many of their test squad in the county games to prepare them for the game.

Elsewhere, Jonny Bairstow will be available for the opening two games of the series before returning to Yorkshire and Mark Wood will be available for just the opening game with Overton coming in for the final two games.

Livingstone is the standout new name and he made headlines all round the cricketing world in April 2015, when he scored 350 off only 138 balls for his then club side Nantwich.

Since then, he has kicked on and has become a regular in the Lancashire XI in all formats. He’s an aggressive batsman who has been tipped by many to have a bright England future.

Leg spinner Crane is brought into the squad as England look to strengthen their spin bowling options in the shorter formats. Malan, Curran and Overton have all featured in previous squads but have yet to make their debuts.

The three game series kicks off on the 21st of June at Southampton before they head Taunton on the 23rd and finish up in Cardiff on Sunday the 25th of June.
