Surrey all-rounder Tom Curran is the latest player to be called up to the England Ashes test match squad after Steven Finn was forced to withdraw with injury.
The 22-year-old will fly out to Australia tomorrow to join his teammates, who start their second warm-up match ahead of the Ashes’ start. Curran has been very impressive since breaking into the Surrey set-up and has claimed 171 wickets in just 51 first-class matches at an average of 29.
He has been in the England set-up before, playing for both of the limited over sides and claimed the prize scalp of West Indies opener Chris Gayle on his T20 debut. The all-rounder comes in to replace Steven Finn, who was forced to withdraw after scans showed he has torn his left knee cartilage.
Curran seems to be the closest possible like for like replacement for Ben Stokes, as he bowls at high speeds and is also a very competent batsman. But, it remains to be seen how England will line their team up with injury concerns over all-rounder Moeen Ali.
