After playing a two-day game at the weekend to blow off the cobwebs after a long flight to Australia, England stepped up the the intensity of their Ashes preparations with a First Class game against a Cricket Australia XI in a Day/Night game at the Adelaide Oval.

A lot of players in the England side need to perform well in the warm ups as their places in the side are far from secure, and whilst there were a few promising signs, familiar issues came back to haunt the battling line-up.

Here’s what we learned about Joe Root’s side on Day One of the latest warm up game as they finished on 278/8 after winning the toss and deciding to bat first.
