Ben Stokes ‘won’t be risked’ against New Zealand
England won’t risk Ben Stokes in their crucial T20 tri-series game with New Zealand on Sunday, Sky Sports report.
Stokes landed in New Zealand on Friday having pleaded not guilty to affray at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and has practised with the side.
The all-rounder’s session included batting in the nets and carrying out fielding drills with the squad, however, he did not bowl.
Captain Eoin Morgan is expected to be fit after a recent groin strain, but stated that Stokes is expected to miss out.
We’re not expecting Ben to play, he only got off a long flight yesterday.
Morgan is set to replace James Vince in the side, while seamer Tom Curran and spinner Liam Dawson are possibilities to step in for injured fast bowler Liam Plunkett.
Despite losing three from three so far, a win for England on Sunday could see them progress to the final against Australia, however, they will need to better New Zealand’s net run rate in the process.
