Kagiso Rabada’s appeal hearing date revealed
South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada will have his appeal hearing against a two-match suspension on Monday as he seeks to play in the rest of the Test series against Australia.
Rabada was charged and found guilty of ‘inappropriate and deliberate physical contact with a player’ after clashing with Australia captain Steve Smith in the second test, a match the Proteas won with Rabada being named man of the match.
The fast bowler was given three demerit points by the ICC match referee Jeff Crowe, which meant he reached an automatic two-game suspension.
Although there was contact made with Smith, Rabada has maintained that any contact was accidental.
The Test series so far has been extremely heated, with Australia’s David Warner, Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Marsh, and South Africa’s Quinton de Kock all being sanctioned by the ICC for various incidents.
New Zealander Michael Heron will have 48 hours to arrive at a decision after the hearing, which could rule the highly rated bowler out of the series.
