Alastair Cook had ‘doubts’ over England career during Ashes
England batsman Alastair Cook has recently admitted that he had ‘doubts’ over his international Test future, but believes his unbeaten double hundred in the Ashes shows that he has still ‘got it’.
Cook’s huge innings in Melbourne ultimately helped the tourists dodge an embarassing 5-0 whitewash.
It also helped the opener end a poor run of form where he had gone 10 innings without passing 50 since August 2017.
Talking ahead of the Test series with New Zealand, the 33-year-old admitted to having doubts over his international future.
There were moments when it was tough. You question yourself – ‘am I still good enough to play at the real elite level?’ You start doubting yourself.
However, Cook passed 12,000 Test runs in the final Ashes Test, a phenomenal achievement, and is now looking to pick up from his innings in Melbourne next week.
The former Test captain is set to play in his 153rd Test when England begin their two-Test series against New Zealand on Thursday under the captaincy of Joe Root.
