ICC open to scrapping toss
The ICC are set to meet over the decision on whether to scrap the toss after there was a feeling that it would help to limit the advantage of the home side ahead of the upcoming Test championship, according to ESPN.
It’s been tradition since the very first Test match in 1877 for the game to commence with a coin-toss and is an act so-steeped in history it seems hard to imagine the sport without it.
At present the away side choose heads or tails after the coin is tossed by the home team captain, but there are fears this may not be the case in the long term.
The proposed idea is to let the visiting side choose if they would like to bat or bowl first, meaning the home side can’t produce a pitch would would benefit them significantly.
This is an extension from an existing state of affairs in the County Championship where the away captain can elect to field first if they desire.
