The England players accused of spot-fixing by an undercover operation will be interviewed by anti-corruption detectives.

The England and Wales Cricket Board have labelled the accusations as “categorically false”, and were made in a programme shown by Al Jazeera on Sunday.

Three players are said to be involved in the incidents, relating to a 2016 Test match in Chennai, India.

The names of the players were excluded from the programme.

Additional accusations were made against two Australian players, again for match in India. Cricket Australia and the ECB released statements on Sunday to deny the allegations, with captains Joe Root and Tim Paine themselves discrediting the reports.

The International Cricket Council however is taking the matter more seriously, and will meet the Al Jazeera production staff later this week.

The ICC are said to be aware of the identities of the implicated players, and will speak to them following a “full” and “thorough” investigation.

The England XI playing in the Chennai Test were as follows:

Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Liam Dawson, Adil Rashid, Stuart Broad, Jake Ball.
