England close to agreeing four-day Test with Ireland
According to a report from the BBC, England are close to agreeing a four-day Test with Ireland at Lord’s next year.
The proposed Test is believed to be scheduled for the summer of 2019, with the match taking place between the World Cup, which is also taking place in England and Wales.
Tests normally take place over a scheduled five days, however, the International Cricket Council last year approved four-day Tests and the proposed Test between the two countries is set to be put to the England and Wales Cricket Board’s cricket committee later this month.
Ireland took on Pakistan in their inaugural Test last month, with the visitors defeating Ireland by five wickets, despite a promising showing from the hosts.
England’s last Test which was scheduled for less than five days was against New Zealand back in 1971.
If the match is confirmed, it would be a perfect way for England to build up to the Ashes series in 2019.
