Ricky Ponting joins Australia coaching team for England tour
Australian cricket Hall Of Famer Ricky Ponting has joined the team’s coaching staff ahead of their five ODIs and one Twenty20 match against England this month, according to a report on the Daily Mail.
The former Australia captain will link up with his former teammate Justin Langer in the national team set up.
Ponting has valuable knowledge that he can pass on to the current crop of players, who will be hoping to learn new things from the coach at every opportunity.
In a statement, Langer sang the praises of Ponting and admitted it was a huge bonus for his side to have him as a coach. He said:
Ricky is one of the greats of the game, and since he was already in England doing some commentary we saw it as a great opportunity to have him join our team for this important series.
Ricky’s knowledge of the game is second-to-none, and we know that his experiences, tactical expertise and leadership will be invaluable for this group.
Ponting won the world cup three times during his successful career and will be hoping to guide Australia to a successful result against England.
He will start his role with the team on June 10th as he juggles his commentary duties.
