Usman Khawaja reveals TV programme influenced his Glamorgan move
Australian batsman Usman Khawaja admitted that TV series Gavin and Stacey played a part in him joining the Welsh club, BBC report.
Khawaja was originally signed by Glamorgan for the popular T20 Blast competition, however, as fellow Australian and Glamorgan player Shaun Marsh was called up by his country for their one-day series against England, Khawaja has joined the county early.
The 31-year-old was part of Australia’s Ashes winning side that defeated England 4-0 in the winter and was also part of the squad for the Test series in South Africa, which was overshadowed by the ball-tampering scandal.
Talking to BBC Sport Wales, Khawaja admitted the comedy series played a part in his decision to join Glamorgan.
Rachel got me into it. She loved the show and told me about it and that James Corden is in it, so I said ‘Okay, I’ll watch it.’ So I watched it and fell in love with it. There are all these places I hear about on the show and I haven’t been to Cardiff before, so you might see me on some of the tours or something! Everything I’ve learned is from Gavin and Stacey!
Khawaja, who has played 33 Tests for his country, is available for Glamorgan’s next three County Championship matches and their T20 Blast campaign, where they will be looking to go one better than their semi-final exit last season.
