Scotland claim famous win over England in ODI thriller
Scotland pulled off one of the biggest victories in their history as they defeated England by six runs in a One Day International at The Grange in Edinburgh.
With England just one strike away from victory, Safyaan Sharif trapped Mark Wood LBW to seal the famous win.
Earlier in the day, Scotland scored 371/5, with Calum MacLeod scoring a wonderful 140 not out from 94 balls.
The home side batted superbly and took advantage of the good pitch, fast outfield and some average bowling from England to post what proved to be a winning total.
MacLeod was the standout player but Kyle Coetzer (58), Matt Cross (48), Ritchie Berrington (39) and George Munsey (55) all made valuable contributions as the home side put the English bowlers to the sword.
Despite the mammoth score they were chasing, the visitors looked fairly comfortable as Jonny Bairstow became the first England player to score three consecutive ODI hundreds as he and Jason Roy (34) put on 129 for the first wicket.
The opening batsman scored 105 from 59 balls before he was caught in the deep.
Alex Hales (52) and Joe Root (29) steadied the ship with a 55 run partnership, before Hales called Root through for a single that was never on, and the Test captain was run out.
England then lost four wickets for 56 runs as Scotland took control but Moeen Ali (46) and Liam Plunkett (47*) got the visitors back in the game with a 69 run partnership.
However, a combination of excellent bowling and tremendous fielding saw the home side pick up the three wickets they needed to claim a famous win.
