Sri Lanka delay play by 90 minutes after ball-tampering row
The Sri Lankan cricket team refused to take the field for almost two hours after a ball-tampering row during the second Test against the West Indies, the Daily Mail report.
The tourists were penalised five penalty runs by umpires Aleem Dar and Ian Gould after they ruled the team altered the condition of the ball during day two.
Dar and Gould then decided to change the match ball, which was 44 overs old, ahead of the beginning of play on day three which then prompted the Sri Lankan’s to stay in their dressing room.
Play was seemingly set to resume around 50 minutes after the scheduled start when both teams made their way onto the field, however, Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal was involved in an argument with both umpires and then took his team off the field again.
Shortly after, play finally got underway, with the Sri Lanka Cricket board releasing a statement saying the side ‘have not engaged in any wrongdoing’ and refused to take to the field ‘under protest’.
