Two England stars to miss remaining ODIs against Australia
Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes have been ruled out of England’s remaining One Day International matches against Australia, according to a report on Talksport.
Stokes has a hamstring problem and Woakes as hurt his thigh, both injuries occurring against Pakistan at the start of this month.
The English Cricket Board confirmed that the duo will miss the entire series after initially anticipating that they will only be absent for a small part of it.
Stokes is understood to be recovering well from his problem and he could be back in action before Woakes, whose injury is said to be more serious.
There is no return date set for either player but Woakes is expected to miss England’s one-day series against India, which commences on 12th July.
A statement by the ECB read:
Chris Woakes’ right quad tear, which he sustained at Emerald Headingley in the second Test against Pakistan earlier this month, was at least in part due to a flare-up of a chronic right knee problem.
He has had an injection for the knee issue last Monday, and will now undertake a rehabilitation and conditioning programme to address both injuries. A date for return cannot be specified at this stage.
The ECB is hopeful that Stokes will be 100% fit in time for the one-day series against India.
