Dinesh Chandimal denies ball tampering
Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal has denied claims he tampered with the ball during the recent match his side played against the West Indies in St Lucia, according to BBC Sport.
Facing a hearing at the end of the match, the umpires had raised a number of concerns about the way the ball was looking during the game.
As a result, Sri Lanka didn’t take to the field until two hours after play was supposed to start.
The thoroughly bizarre match ended in a draw.
With the Australian ball-tampering scandal in South Africa fresh in the memory, Sri Lanka will be keen to avoid a similar incident.
The ICC released a statement following the incident saying:
Chandimal was “charged for breaching Level 2.2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct” which relates to “changing the condition of the ball”.
