Ireland captain insists they will play without fear against India
Ireland’s Gary Wilson has admitted that will go all out against India this afternoon when they face Virat Kohli’s side in the first of two T20 matches, according to the Belfast Telegraph.
India currently sits 3rd in the world rankings while Ireland is 17th and if the visitors play to the level which everyone knows they can, it could be a very one-sided affair.
Virat Kholi, the 2017 Player of the Year, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, as well as Shikhar Dhawan all sit in the top 20 of the T20 batting rankings which shows just how much of a challenge the Irish will come up against in this series.
Seven players in the Irish ranks are set to face India again since the last match between the two in this format which was a comfortable win for India, but the Irish have improved quite dramatically since that point.
Wilson, who is the Ireland captain for this series, said:
Any time you walk on the pitch for Ireland it’s a special day. We know what India will bring, they are a special Twenty20 side, but we have to concentrate on our own game.
We’ve played some really good Twenty20 cricket over the last couple of weeks even though we didn’t get the wins we wanted in (the Tri-Series in) Holland, but there was lots of good learning done and the batters have played particularly well.
Ireland and India go head to head in the first match for the series at 16:00 today.
