After two and a half days of drama at Super Sports Park, visitors Pakistan and hosts South Africa are looking forward to Cape Town test. It was an engrossing test match and perhaps each session of the test match was worth watching. Battle was even as both teams were eyeing to take advantage over the other. Eventually, hosts had the last laugh.
Now what to expect from the second test at Newlands, Cape Town. Here are three talking points regarding the upcoming encounter at the above mentioned venue:
Big Vern is back!
South Africa would be feeling relieved as their one the finest pacer Vernon Philander is now available for the 2nd test. While Philander on the other hand holds a tremendous record at this venue. He has taken 49 wickets at an average of 16.55 at this particular ground. So, safely we can presume that Newlands is the happy hunting ground for big Vern.
Therefore, comeback of Philander would really ignite some stress in the Pakistani camp.
Mohammad Abbas is back!
While Philander is coming back, Pakistan would also strengthen their arsenal as their premier fast bowler of recent times, making his way back to the test side. Abbas has recently created a record by having a best test average by a fast bowler in last 100 years, provided taking 50 or more test scalps.
This speaks volume of his ability and class. During test series against Australia at UAE, South Africa’s highest test wicket taker Dale Steyn predicted that Abbas would soon be No.1 test bowler in ICC Rankings.
So, ABBAS vs PHILANDER will surely be a contest to look forward to.
Yasir vs Maharaj
Traditionally Cape Town’s wicket do assist spinners. Pakistan has world class spinner in their ranks in shape of Yasir Shah. While South Africa has Keshav Maharaj who took best test figures of outgoing 2018 in Sri Lanka.
He bagged 9 for 129 against Sri Lanka at Colombo; which made him 19th overall and only 2nd South African to take best test figure in a test inning. Only Jim Laker and Anil Kumble are two bowlers in history of test cricket to take all 10 wickets in an inning.
So, Shah vs Maharaj would be an interesting battle to watch out for.
Currently, hosts are 1-0 up in three match test series. Pakistan would be desperate to square the series with wish for an improved batting performance. While Proteas would go all out to seal the series.
So, fingers crossed for five days of exciting cricket!
