Afghanistan hit a remarkable T20I record score of 278/3 against Ireland on Saturday, Sky Sports report.

The total in India eclipsed the previous record set by Australia in 2016, where they hit 263/3 against Sri Lanka.

India and Sri Lanka also sit high on the list of highest innings totals in T20I, with both countries hitting 260 in 2017 and 2007 respectively.

The Afghanistan hero was opening batsman Hazratullah Zazai, who struck 162 not out off just 62 balls.

The 20-year-old hit an impressive 16 sixes along with 11 fours and shared a record-breaking stand with opening partner Usman Ghani.

The pair put on 236 for the first wicket, with Ireland falling 84 runs short of the huge target on 194/6, with star spinner Rashid Khan taking 4/25 in his four overs.

Irish opener Paul Stirling smashed a personal best 91 in the reply, however, the record-breaking day will be remembered for youngster Hazratullah’s incredible knock.
