  • Rain delay meant a 11 over a side game
  • Mumbai Indians won the toss and fielded first
  • Hardik Pandya the only change to either side

A rain-affected contest in Guwahati turned into an 11-overs-a-side thriller, but it was the Rajasthan Royals who adapted better to the conditions, securing a convincing 27-run victory over the Mumbai Indians.

Only the one change

Hardik Pandya came in to the Mumbai Indians side, and was the only change in either side. Pandya won the toss, and put the Rajasthan Royals, captained by hometown hero Riyan Parag, into bat.

Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi light up Guwahati

That turned out to be a bad decision, as Yashasvi Jaiswal and the 15 year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi put on 80 for the first wicket, as Sooryavanshi scored 39 off only 14 balls, hitting Legend Jasprit Bumrah for 13 from 3 balls in Bumrah’s first over. Jaiswal ended the innings unbeaten on 77* off 32 balls and Skipper Parag scored 20 off 10 balls, to finish the innings on 150-3.

As you could expect, the bowling figures are not pretty reading for the Mumbai Indians. The pick of the bowlers was Am Ghazanfar with 2-21 from two overs. Hardik Pandya bowled two overs for just 17 runs, which was the best economy rate of the five bowlers used.

Rajasthan Royals’ bowlers seal the deal

With a daunting 151 required in just 11 overs, Mumbai Indians needed a flying start but never quite found their rhythm. Wickets fell at regular intervals, halting any momentum, with only Sherfane Rutherford (25 off 8) and Naman Dhir (25 off 13) offering brief resistance. They eventually finished on 123-9, falling 27 runs short.

Rajasthan’s bowlers were in control throughout the chase, applying constant pressure. Nandre Burger led the way with 2-21, while Sandeep Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi claimed two wickets apiece. Jofra Archer and Tushar Deshpande chipped in with one each, capping off a clinical all-round performance from the Royals.

The result continues Rajasthan’s perfect start to the season, taking them to the top of the table with three wins from three. In contrast, Mumbai Indians find themselves slipping down the standings, sitting seventh after suffering consecutive defeats.

Attention now turns to the next clash, as the Delhi Capitals face the Gujarat Titans — with the Capitals looking to extend their strong early momentum against a Titans side still searching for their first win of the campaign.
