The final day of this week’s County Championship delivered some excellent matches across both Division One and Division Two. Day three brought wins for Somerset, Durham and Worcestershire, so what did day four have in store?

Anderson rolls back the years
Jimmy Anderson took 4-18 off 9.5 overs as Derbyshire were all out for 108, losing by 29 runs. Lancashire started day four 147-6 with a lead of 124. However, they soon were all out for 160, leaving Derbyshire requiring 137 runs to win. Anderson now has 14 wickets in the two games at an average of 13.64. Lancashire sit second behind Durham.

Sussex make it two in a row
Jack Leaning (120*)and Tom Price (70*) batted all day to see Sussex over the line to win by five wickets against Warwickshire. Set 327 to win, Sussex ended day three on 234-5, still requiring 94 runs. Sussex are now up to third in the table, 5 points behind Somerset on top.

Nottinghamshire up to second
Nottinghamshire took the eight wickets they needed to secure second spot in Division One, beating Glamorgan by 192 runs. Glamorgan began the day on 132/2, but Asa Tribe failed to add to his overnight 85. Despite some resistance from Mason Crane (39 off 196 balls) and Andy Gorvin (20 off 75 balls) late in the innings, along with a brief rain interruption, they were unable to prevent Nottinghamshire from sealing the win.

Hampshire secure first win of season
Kyle Abbott’s match figures made for impressive reading – 10 for 70 from 37 overs – as Hampshire picked up their first win of the season. Yorkshire were already in deep trouble at the end of day three, on 65 for 5 and still needing 360 runs. Despite contributions from George Hill (52) and Dom Bess (49), Hampshire had too much and secured a 214-run victory.

In the other games
Wickets were hard to come by at the Oval as a total of 1474 runs were scored for the lost of 24 wickets as Surrey and Leicestershire drew.

Northamptonshire were left frustrated by the rain as Kent, who began day four on 162 for 3, added just 90 runs and lost two wickets but still secured the draw. Ben Compton finished unbeaten on 114, while Sam Northeast made 69 from 149 balls to help see the game through.
