Brydon Carse will miss the 2026 Indian Premier League through injury, prompting Sunrisers Hyderabad to bring in Dilshan Madushanka as his replacement. The late switch deals a blow to the England seamer, who had been expected to play a key role in the tournament, while the Sri Lankan now has the chance to make his mark in one of the world’s biggest T20 leagues.

Carse’s injury

Carse injured his right hand whilst batting ahead of the opening game of this season’s IPL against last year’s winners Royal Challengers Bengaluru. No other details of the injury has been released, other than he will return home to be assessed. Sunrisers head coach Daniel Vettori had hoped for a quick recovery but that hasn’t happened.

Madushanka was part of the Mumbai Indians squad for the 2024 season, but didn’t play due to a hamstring injury ruling him out for the season.

Bowling woes for Hyderabad

Carse’s injury isn’t the only issue for the Sunrisers. Hyderabad’s captain Pat Cummins is also an injury worry. He is due to undergo a fitness test tomorrow in Australia(15th April) and if he passes, he will fly to India on 17th April. Hyderabad face Chennai Super Kings the day after.

As for their current bowlers, Jaydev Unadkat (4-140) and Harshan Patel (0-94) have been ineffective. The Sunrisers used two uncapped players in Praful Hinge (4-34) and Sakib Hussain (4-24) and they helped secure the win over Rajasthan Royals (13th April).

Cummins’ arrival will be a major boost for the team, who currently sit fourth in the table with two wins from five games. However, he has not played much since mid-2025 due to a persistent back injury, which also ruled him out of the recent Ashes series.
