CSK won the toss and fielded first, and hoped that they could get their season going. SRH had their own ideas about that as they set about the CSK bowling. At the end of the first power play,SRH were 75-2, with Travis Head (23 off 20) and Ishan Kishan out first ball, and last of the first power play.

Abhishek Sharma’s 59 off 22 set the innings up well, but wickets continued to fall steadily during the innings. Heinrich Klaasen’s 59 off 39 in the middle of the innings settled things a little, and with quick fire runs from Nitesh Kumar Reddy (12 off 8) and Salil Arora (13 off 12), SRH got to 194-9 at the end of the 20 overs.

That 59 for Klaasen put him on top of the Race for the Orange Cap, with a total of 283 from six innings. For CSK, Anshul Kamboj took 3-22 and put himself atop of the Purple Cap rankings, with 13 wickets.

Malinga at the Reddy

The CSK chase didn’t get off to a great start, with Sanju Samson out for 7 after 7 balls. After the first power play, CSK were 1 run ahead of SRH at 76-2. Wickets fell at crucial times and no one for CSK seemed to get going properly. Matthew Short top scored with 34, Ayush Mhatre scored 30 and Sarfaraz Khan managed 25.

It was the bowling of SRH that won the game for them. Nitesh Kumar Reddy (2-31)and Esham Malinga (3-29)took five wickets for only 60 runs from their eight overs. The game came down to CSK needed 18 off the last over, to be bowled by youngster Praful Hinge. If you thought he couldn’t handle the pressure, you would be wrong. The last over went for 7 runs and the wicket of Jamie Overton (16 off 15), and Hyderabad won by 10 runs.
