At a glance

  • Only two games today as Worcestershire beat Kent
  • Gloucestershire picked up first win
  • Gay in the runs for Durham

In the second division of the County Championship, there were two cracking games that finished today, with wickets and a couple of big hundreds to secure victory. The other game finished yesterday, as Worcestershire won by an innings and two runs over Kent.

Derbyshire v Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire picked up their first win of the season with a 10 wicket victory over Derbyshire. The hosts started the day on 117-3, following on and still trailing by 100 runs.

Derbyshire would have hoped to bat through the day without too much incident. However, three wickets fell early, only adding 18 runs. Matthew Montgomery stuck around for 74, and Luis Reece scored 50, but Derbyshire were all out for 252, and a slender lead of 35.

Will Williams (3-50) and Gabe Bell (3-44) were the pick of the bowlers, with Ed Middleton also picking 2-34. That left the openers Cameron Bancroft and Ben Charlesworth to knock off the required 35 without incident to win the game.

Gloucestershire sit in seventh and have a bye so can celebrate their win properly. Derbyshire are in sixth and travel to face Kent next.

Durham v Lancashire

Durham secure their first home win of the season to go into second, behind their opponents Lancashire. Lancashire declared late last night on 260-9, with a lead of 335, leaving Durham all day to get their total.

Lancashire reduced Durham to 46-2, and must have thought another couple of wickets and they would be favourites to win the game…those wickets didn’t come though.

Emilio Gay and David Bedingham took the attack to the Lancashire bowlers, and it was this pair who guided Durham to victory. Gay finished unbeaten on 159, while Bedingham made 129 not out.

George Balderson (1-72) and Mitchell Stanley (1-49) took the only wickets to fall. Durham now face Middlesex at Lords, while Lancashire have a well earned rest, after playing four straight weeks.
