Concern is beginning to simmer around Delhi Capitals after a heavy 9-wicket defeat, but former India leg-spinner Piyush Chawla has urged the franchise to keep perspective and resist any urge to panic as the Indian Premier League season gathers pace.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo after the loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Chawla stressed that Delhi must lean on composure rather than concern.

He pointed out that the team showed promise early in the campaign and insisted that a short slump should not erase that progress.

“There will be some panic around for sure, knowing the history of Delhi Capitals. But that’s not the right time now.

“They need to sit together, discuss it, and start fresh because they began well in the tournament, and it’s not like in three weeks the team has changed or the way of playing has changed,” Chawla said on ESPNcricinfo.

Blunt Warning to Delhi Capitals as Dressing-Room Mood Becomes Crucial

Chawla placed particular emphasis on the dressing-room environment, describing it as a decisive factor in shaping results over a long tournament. According to him, confidence and belief within the squad can often prove just as important as skill on the field.

He also warned that dropped points at this stage could come back to haunt the side later in the playoff race. However, his message remained clear: reset mentally and focus on positive cricket.

“Later, in the business end of the tournament, when they look back, those two points will definitely come back if they do not qualify.

“So right now is the time to forget everything and move on, play positive cricket, and make sure there’s a very positive environment in the dressing room because that plays a huge role,” he added in the same interaction.

Costly Errors and 75 All-Out Collapse Derail Campaign

The Capitals’ recent dip has been sharp and concerning. Just 48 hours after posting their highest-ever IPL total, they were bowled out for 75 in 15.4 overs, one of their lowest scores in the competition. View the full scorecard of the game here.

A bright start with back-to-back wins has since unraveled, with Delhi Capitals managing just 1 win in their last 6 matches. Fielding lapses have compounded their troubles, with dropped catches proving especially costly.

Against Punjab Kings, missed chances allowed the opposition to pull off a record-breaking T20 chase, further denting Delhi’s momentum and confidence.

RCB Seal Dominant 78/1 Chase in Just 6.3 Overs

The latest setback came in emphatic fashion as Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered a clinical performance. After bowling Delhi out for 75, RCB raced to 78/1 in just 6.3 overs to seal victory with 9 wickets in hand.

Fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/5) and Josh Hazlewood (4/12) dismantled the batting line-up with precision and pace. Hazlewood’s spell marked his best figures in the IPL and earned him the Player of the Match award.

Despite the heavy defeat, Chawla’s message is one of measured optimism. With several matches still to play, Delhi have time to regroup, tighten their fielding and rediscover the form that defined their early-season surge.
