Patidar Rescue Act Keeps RCB in the Hunt After LSG Struck Early
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru stuttered early in the innings as Mohammed Shami got Jacob Bethell to slash one to Prince Yadav at deep backward point. Yadav would then bowl Virat Kohli through the gate for a duck.
Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar started out cautiously. Once they found their rhythm, however, Patidar went hell for leather, hitting three fours and six sixes as he scored a 31-ball 61. They put on 95 runs in just 53 balls for the third wicket.
And then disaster struck. Prince Yadav came back into the attack to immediately dismiss Padikkal and Jithesh Sharma in the same over, eventually finishing with 3-33 in his four overs. Patidar would follow them into the hut, dismissed by former Royal Challengers man Shahbaz Ahmed.
Tim David would give the RCB fans a sliver of hope with a well-made 17-ball 40. Krunal Pandya and Romario Shepherd chipped in with cameos too. But in the end, it would be a little too much to do for the Bengaluru franchise on the night.
Marsh and Pant Fireworks Take LSG to 209 in Rain-Affected First Innings
The Lucknow Super Giants put their season’s woes behind them as their batters took on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowlers. Mitchell Marsh, in particular, was in exceptional form. The Aussie opener used all his muscle to hit nine fours and nine six enroute a 56-ball 111.
A whirlwind start saw Marsh scored 58 runs in the powerplay alone. Pace bowlers, finger spinners, wrist spinners, nobody was spared. While rain delays may have brought about breaks in momentum, Marsh kept going.
Hazlewood, who was taken for a few by his compatriot, would have the last laugh though. The pacer got Marsh to find Jacob Bethell in the deep by bowling a wide yorker.
Marsh was ably supported by Nicholas Pooran, who scored 38 himself. Not quite the storm he worked up in Mumbai, but a handy innings nonetheless.
The fireworks would be reserved for skipper Rishabh Pant. The left-handed keeper-batter smashed four fours and two sixes in a 10-ball cameo that saw him score an unbeaten 32. As a result, LSG comfortably crossed the 200-mark in spite of the match being reduced to 19 overs-a-side thanks to rain.
