At a glance:
- Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed 100 T20 sixes in just 515 balls — the fastest ever.
- The 15-year-old broke Karanbir Singh’s previous record of 813 balls.
- Rajasthan Royals suffered a crushing 77-run defeat in Jaipur despite Sooryavanshi’s explosive start.
The Rajasthan Royals’ devastating 77-run loss to the Gujarat Titans in a 230-run chase on Saturday night in Jaipur may have been caused by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s early dismissal. But early in the powerplay, Gujarat was momentarily in danger because of the left-hander’s explosive start.
The 15-year-old began his innings by smashing Mohammed Siraj for a six, setting yet another world record. In the opening two overs, Sooryavanshi hammered Siraj and Kagiso Rabada, hitting two fours and three sixes before being removed with a crisp bouncer. But in just 29 games after making his professional debut in the format last year, Sooryavanshi won two incredible world records.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Breaks Records
Sooryavanshi’s first maximum of the innings against Siraj made him the first youngster to hit 100 sixes. The Bihar prodigy also broke all previous records by being the fastest person to ever attain the milestone. In T20 cricket, Sooryavanshi hit his 100th six after just his 515th delivery, surpassing Karanbir Singh’s previous record of 100 sixes in 813 balls.
Third on the list is West Indies legend Kieron Pollard, who needed 843 balls to attain the record. The top five are completed by Romario Shepherd (845) and Sekkuge Prasanna (850).
He smashed 12 maximums against Sunrisers Hyderabad during his 37-ball century earlier this season, setting a new record for the most sixes in an IPL innings by an Indian. Sooryavanshi has hit 40 sixes in just 11 innings this season, just three shy of the record for the most sixes by an Indian in any IPL season.
With 59 sixes during the 2012 season, Chris Gayle still holds the record for the most maximums in a single IPL campaign.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been Rajasthan’s standout batter in the current IPL season, scoring 440 runs in 11 innings at an average of 40.00 and a remarkable strike rate of 236.55. His tally includes two half-centuries and a century.
