Teen prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has taken another significant step in his rapid rise after earning a place in the India A squad for next month’s tri-series in Sri Lanka.

The talented batter, regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in Indian cricket, has been included in the 15-member squad for the 50-over competition that begins on June 9 in Dambulla. Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A will also feature in the tournament.

Selectors are believed to be keen on assessing the youngster at the India A level before India begin their tour of the United Kingdom later in June. The exposure could provide Sooryavanshi with a valuable audition as the national setup continues to monitor his development closely.

India A selectors continue youth focused approach

The teenager has already attracted attention with his fearless batting and mature temperament beyond his years. His selection now places him alongside several emerging names who have impressed in domestic cricket and the IPL this season.

India A will be led by Tilak Varma with Riyan Parag named vice-captain. Both players have become familiar faces in the IPL and are viewed as important figures in India’s next generation. Ayush Badoni, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh are among the other exciting batting options in the squad.

The squad also reflects a youthful direction from the selectors. Most of the players are in their early-20s with strong performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and IPL helping shape the group. Fast bowlers Arshad Khan, Yudhvir Singh and Yash Thakur are among the more experienced members of the side.

Several players already have senior international exposure. Tilak Varma and Riyan Parag have represented India in white-ball cricket while Anshul Kamboj has featured in the Test setup. Badoni too has previously earned a national call-up.

India A’s spin department includes Harsh Dubey, Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam while Prabhsimran Singh and Kumar Kushagra will handle wicketkeeping duties.

Sooryavanshi’s inclusion is likely to generate considerable interest given the growing excitement around his talent. The Sri Lanka tour now offers him a chance to showcase his ability in unfamiliar conditions against quality opposition.
