Bangladesh have put themselves in prime position after three days, as they have set Pakistan a massive 437 runs to win with two days to go in the second Test, having won the first Test.

The umpires called an end to the play for the day after two overs of the final innings due to bad light. Pakistan have yet to get off the mark, Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam tested the Pakistani openers.

Story of the day

The story of the day though is Mushifqur’s 137 off 233 balls. He added 123 runs for the fifth wicket with Litton Das (69). Mushfiqur also added a further 77 for the seventh wicket with Taijul Islam (22).

Mahmudul Hasan Joy also scored 52 opening the innings. Mushfiqur’s innings came to an end, as the last man out with the score on 390, leaving Pakistan a mammoth 437 to tie the series.

Pakistan had about 35 minutes to bat at the end of day three, but the umpires decided the light had faded too much and brought the players off.

Pakistan’s best spell

Pakistan started day three with their best spell, as Khurram Shahzad got the early wicket of captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. However, the day got progressively worse from that point.

Litton Das, fresh from a century in the first innings, continued his fine form with 69 off 92 balls. He rode his luck a little as well, as he was stranded mid-pitch on 38, but Babar Azam couldn’t affect the run out. Das was also dropped on 56 by Sajid Khan off his own bowling.

Litton on fire

Litton Das has been on fire lately. He now has three occasions of a hundred and a fifty in a Test, the most by a Bangladeshi wicketkeeper-batter. The other two occasions were when he scored 114 and 59 against Pakistan in 2021, and 141 and 52 against Sri Lanka in 2022.
