  • Only second appearance at the tournament
  • Last appearance in the 2023 World Cup in South Africa
  • Led by Gaby Lewis for the first time at a global event

Ireland make only their second appearance at the T20 World Cup, after missing out on the last iteration. They first appeared in the 2023 World Cup in South Africa, but failed to win a game.

They will be captained by Gaby Lewis, who is leading the team for the first time at a major tournament. However, Lewis is recovering from a leg injury, so will miss the T20I tri-series against Pakistan and West Indies in Clontarf, so vice-captain Orla Prendergast will captain the team in her absence.

Squad List

Ireland’s 15-woman squad has several first-time call-ups for the tournament, including Ava Canning, Alana Dalzell, Aimee Maguire, Christina Coulter Reilly and Lara McBride. However, there is plenty of experience in the squad as well, with former captain Laura Delany and vice captain Orla Prendergast.

Prediction

Ireland’s best chance of a win will come in their opening group match against Scotland. They play against England, defending champs New Zealand and previous winners West Indies, so I can’t see them getting out of the group.
