  • Missed the New Zealand series due to the birth of first child
  • Wyatt-Hodge available for the second and third T20I’s
  • A big boost for England ahead of the World Cup

England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge will be available for the second and third matches of the T20I series against India. Wyatt-Hodge missed the recent series with New Zealand, with her partner giving birth to their first child last week.

The series against India starts on Thursday (28th May) in Chelmsford, with games on Saturday 30th May and Tuesday 2nd June.

Wyatt-Hodge’s addition to the squad will come as a welcome boost just before the T20 World Cup, which starts on 12th June. Her inclusion will mean that she won’t be going into the World Cup without playing a competitive international this summer.

Edwards doesn’t know her best XI

In Wyatt-Hodge’s absence, Alice Capsey has opened the innings with Sophia Dunkley. Capsey scored an unbeaten 74 to lead England to win the first T20I against New Zealand. Capsey scored 22 and 3 in the following two games. Dunkley, on the other hand, scored eight, 26 and 22 in the three games.

Having Wyatt-Hodge back means that coach Charlotte Edwards admitted, on Monday, that she didn’t know what her best XI is. England are already missing Nat Sciver-Brunt, who missed the entire series with the White Ferns, and will miss the India series as well. Despite not playing an international this summer, Wyatt- Hodge had scored two centuries and 96 in five 50-over games for Surrey at the start of the season.

Pavely out, Bouchier stays

Batter Charis Pavely makes way for Wyatt-Hodge and returns to Warwickshire, but batter Maia Bouchier stays with the squad. Bowler Lauren Filer has been released to play for Durham against Surrey on Wednesday, but rejoins the squad after that game.

The India series will provide a last competitive test for England, although they will play two warm matches against Australia (8th June) and India (10th June.)
