England Women beat Scotland Women by 38 runs at Headingley on Saturday as Sophia Dunkley marked her return with the innings that kept the hosts perfect in the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Dunkley made 57 from 37 balls after coming in at No. 3, helping England recover from early pressure and reach 200-5. Alice Capsey added 40, before Freya Kemp and Dani Gibson turned the finish into a surge with a rapid late stand that pushed the target beyond Scotland’s reach.
The result, reported in The Guardian’s match report from Headingley, leaves England with three wins from three in Group B while Nat Sciver-Brunt continues to miss out through injury. It also keeps England moving cleanly through the home tournament despite losing their senior all-rounder at a delicate stage.
Dunkley gives England control without Sciver-Brunt
Scotland had moments of resistance in the chase, with Sarah Bryce and Kirstie Gordon helping them reach 162-7, but England’s attack kept taking the pace out of the reply.
Charlie Dean again captained the side in Sciver-Brunt’s absence, while Sophie Ecclestone and England’s seam options ensured the required rate never became manageable. For England, the significance is simple: they have banked another win without their regular captain and have strengthened their position near the top of the group before facing West Indies at Lord’s.
