Nepal’s return to Darwin has given the 2026 Study NT Top End T20 Series a sharper international edge before the full fixture list is even released.
Northern Territory Cricket confirmed Nepal as the first team locked in for the tournament, which will run from 20 to 30 August. The board says Nepal will play six or more matches, with further teams and the complete schedule to follow.
Darwin gets a genuine development marker
The announcement matters because it moves the Top End event beyond a useful pre-season hit-out for Big Bash pathways. Nepal’s first appearance in 2025 was also the national side’s first on Australian soil, and NT Cricket framed the return around strong local support and international attention from Nepal’s travelling fanbase.
Cricket Association of Nepal secretary Paras Khadka said last year’s tournament gave Nepal important exposure before ICC qualifying cricket, while NT Cricket chief executive Gavin Dovey called the team’s return a boost for Darwin’s winter-cricket profile.
The updated tournament details list nine teams as the tentative field, with each side scheduled for six regular-round games before a four-team finals structure on 30 August.
For Nepal, the value is obvious: competitive T20 cricket in Australian conditions, against domestic and touring opposition, at a point in the calendar when Associate nations are often searching for meaningful preparation. For Darwin, Nepal’s confirmation gives the tournament a bankable crowd story and a stronger global hook.
