San Francisco Unicorns moved to the top of the Major League Cricket table after Matthew Short delivered a decisive all-round performance in a five-wicket win over MI New York.
The Unicorns bowled MI New York out for 104 at Fairplex in Pomona before completing the chase with 19 balls unused, a result that sharpened the playoff race and gave San Francisco a fourth win in five matches.
Short and Bartlett break MI New York
San Francisco’s official report credited Xavier Bartlett with the first incision, removing Quinton de Kock for a duck and finishing with 4-16 from four overs.
Short then turned the squeeze into control. The Unicorns captain claimed 4-17 and later added 21 from 20 balls in the chase, earning MVP honours on a surface where MI New York’s top order never settled.
Nicholas Pooran made 20, while Corey Anderson and Corbin Bosch offered late resistance with 27 and 21 respectively. It was not enough to protect a total of 104.
Krishnamurthi finishes the chase
Sanjay Krishnamurthi gave the innings its calm finish, making an unbeaten 48 from 45 balls with three fours and two sixes. Hassan Khan closed the match alongside him on 11 not out.
The result sends San Francisco into their Dallas stretch with clear table pressure behind them. For MI New York, the concern is sharper: a title-defending side has been dragged into a congested franchise cricket race after being dismantled by pace and off-spin in the same innings.
