# Mushtaq Ahmed Fears Taking PCB Job After Pakistan Test Squad Upheaval

Former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed confirmed he is fearful of accepting a coaching position with the Pakistan Cricket Board following the dismissal of staff midway through the ongoing England tour. Following heavy defeats at Headingley and Lord’s in August, the governing body sent seven players and two coaches home before the conclusion of the series. White-ball head coach Mike Hesson assumed control of the Test side. The sweeping changes saw Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul removed from the dressing room, a move that exacerbated the [mid-series administrative chaos](https://readcricket.com/2026/08/29/sarfaraz-denies-knowing-about-pakistan-threat/).

## Unprecedented Mid-Tour Board Instability

Speaking on the BBC Stumped podcast, Mushtaq said he would want to serve his country but criticised the board’s impulsive culture. “Sometimes you get scared of working for your own country when the people don’t respect you and they sack you because of a few emotional decisions here and there… When you see those things, people getting sacked on a tour, you get worried and scared,” Mushtaq said. The overhaul comes as the national setup tries to address their [chronic vulnerability against spin](https://readcricket.com/2026/09/06/shree-charani/). “Changing seven players and the management, especially with the tour still going on, I feel that this is not the right thing,” Mushtaq added. The three-match series concludes with the third Test in Birmingham, scheduled to end on 13 September as part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
