Big Partnerships
The Gujarat Titans started relatively quickly until Sai Sudharsan was bowled by Mukesh Kumar for 12 off 7 balls, with the score on 19. Jos Buttler hasn’t been in the best of form, with only 64 runs in the IPL so far. However he scored a quick-fire 52 off 27 in a 60-run partnership with Shubman Gill.
Gill was then joined by Washington Sundar, and the pair put on an impressive 104-run partnership for the third wicket, as Gill was caught by Rana off the bowling of Ngidi for 70 off 45 balls. Sundar fell with three balls to go, after scoring 55 off 32 balls.
Bowling heading to the Boundary
The bowling figures were not pretty reading for the Delhi Capitals. Lungisani Ngidi had the best figures with 1-24, but Mukesh Kumar took 2-55. Poor Vipraj Nigam only bowled one over but it went for 23. In total, 13 sixes and 16 fours were hit by the Gujarat Titans.
Capitals off to a flyer
Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul set off chasing the total very quickly, until Nissanka was out caught by Rahul Tewatia off the bowling of Prasidh Krishna for 41 off 24 balls, with the score on 76 off 8.1 overs.
Wickets fell around KL Rahul as he tried to keep the run rate going. However some really tight bowling from Rashid Khan, who bowled his four overs and took 3-17 made sure that the game was going to the wire.
Tight finish on the cards
David Miller, retired hurt earlier, came back out with his side needing him to score runs. With the score on 160-5 with 3.2 overs to go, he needed to stay with KL Rahul. However, Rahul fell six runs later, caught behind by Jos Buttler off the bowling of Mohammed Siraj for 92 runs off 52 balls.
Miller continued to dispatch the ball to all parts, and the game got tighter and tighter, to the point that the Capitals needed 13 off the last over, bowled by Krishna.
After the first ball was hit for four by Nigam, he was caught going for a big hit by Gill. Kuldeep Yadav managed to get off strike first ball. Next ball, Miller sent it 106 metres for a maximum. Suddenly Delhi required two off two, with Miller on strike…
For some reason, Miller decided not to take a single from the next ball as he tried to pull the ball but only to a fielder. So two was needed off the last ball, Miller missed the ball, but Buttler didn’t as he ran out Kuldeep Yadav as he dived for the crease.
But there was still drama, as the Capitals thought the ball made have gone over Miller’s head. The third umpire checked to see if the ball had gone over his head, but it was between shoulder and head height and the Titans secured their first win.
