- Both tight games with either side winning
- Baker with three Somerset wickets
- Beau Webster in the runs for Warwickshire
Day three in the County Championship games usually always produces excitement and drama – and today was no exception. Both games are very tight and all three results are still on the table.
Hampshire v Somerset
Hampshire started the day 146-1, leading Somerset by 96 runs. Hoping to put up a big total to secure the win, Hampshire lost their second wicket on 184, and never really recovered.
Nick Gubbins top scored with 83, Ben Brown scored 66, and a fifty for Jake Lehmann gave Hampshire some hope. However, they were all out for 336, a lead of 286. Lewis Gregory was the star with the ball, as he took 5-42.
Somerset had 39 overs tonight to start their run chase. However, things didn’t start out how they would have wanted. They were reduced to 52-3 after some fine bowling by Sonny Baker, as he has 3-29 so far.
James Rew (58*) and Tom Abell (27*) settled the ship and will want to make a positive start in the morning. The first hour will be key for both sides.

Warwickshire v Essex
Essex started the day 80 runs behind Warwickshire, as they were 110-3. Both sides were keen to get the game moving after weather delays on the first two days, it was Warwickshire who made the first move.
They removed the last seven Essex wickets for 95 runs, with only Simon Harmer (48) putting up any resistance. Essex had a lead of 15 going into Warwickshire’s 2nd innings.
That didn’t start well either, as Alex Davies, Dan Mousley and Sam Hain were all back in the pavillion with the score on 14-3. If it wasn’t for Beau Webster’s 91, Warwickshire would have been in trouble.
However, they were all out for 220, with Sam Cook the pick of the bowlers with 5-58, and Shane Snater took 3-15. There wasn’t much time left of Essex to start their run chase of 206 to win and they navigated their way to 11-0 after four overs. Again, the first hour is critical for both sides.
