The weather has had a say in this round of the County Championship with Warwickshire’s game with Essex has suffered again. But there is an interesting game developing at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton.
Hampshire v Somerset
Somerset started day two in the driving seat at 154-3, looking to get a huge lead and put Hampshire under pressure. However, Hampshire had other ideas. Somerset got to 175-3 when James Rew was out for 86. That bought a flurry of wickets and Somerset ended up being all out for 288, a lead of only 50 runs.
Codi Yusuf was the pick of the bowling for Hampshire with 3-67, and Liam Dawson (2-66) and Kyle Abbott (2-67) chipped in as well.
Hampshire then set about getting back to parity first then set Somerset a huge total in the last innings. They managed to get to 114-1 when Tom Prest was out for 43, after Toby Albert retired hurt on 17. Hampshire ended the day on 146-1, a lead of 96, with Nick Gubbins on 70* and Jake Lehmann on 16*. Jake Ball took the only wicket so far with figures of 1-16 from 4 overs.

Warwickshire v Essex.
Warwickshire started day two in a little bit of trouble after rain brought play to a premature end with them on 113-7. However, Sam Hain (88*), helped out with the tail, got Warwickshire upto 190 ao. Jamie Porter didn’t add to his tally of four wickets, but Sam Cook (2-38), Shane Snater (2-34) and Zaman Akhter (2-47) all added a wicket each.
Essex only batted for 39 overs in the day, but they trail by 80 runs. as they reached 110-3, despite being 19-2. Paul Walter scored 46 before falling, and Charlie Allison starts off tomorrow morning with 40* and nightwatchman Sam Cook is on 5*.
Essex will be hoping the rain stays away so they can pile on the runs and cause some trouble for Warwickshire.
