Punjab Kings continued their commanding start to the Indian Premier League 2026 season with another statement performance, brushing aside a faltering Lucknow Super Giants side that is still searching for rhythm.

Punjab Kings 254 for 7 (Arya 93, Connolly 87, Prince 2-25, Siddharth 2-35) beat Lucknow Super Giants 200 for 5 (Pant 43, Markram 42*, Marsh 40, Jansen 2-37) by 54 runs. View the full score card here.

PBKS stay unbeaten as top order delivers again

At the heart of Punjab’s latest surge were two standout performers who set the tone early. Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly combined with authority, dismantling the Lucknow attack during the powerplay and ensuring their side maintained its unbeaten run.

Connolly, making his league debut, wasted little time settling in. A composed start quickly gave way to aggression, highlighted by a clean strike over midwicket after a string of dot deliveries.

At the other end, Arya was even more imposing. Taking on Mohsin Khan with fearless intent, he unleashed a flurry of leg-side strokes that sailed into the stands with ease.

The pair raced to a second-wicket stand in just 31 deliveries, powering Punjab to 63 for 1 at the end of six overs and putting the contest firmly in their control.

Lucknow’s batting concerns deepen

While Punjab look like a well-oiled machine, Lucknow’s campaign has begun to lose momentum. After a bright opening, they have now slipped into a worrying dip, largely due to inconsistent returns with the bat.

Mukul Choudhary remains their leading run-scorer, though more than a third of his tally came in a single standout innings. The broader picture reflects a side struggling for fluency, with the lowest scoring rate in the competition. In contrast, Punjab’s aggressive approach has kept them among the fastest-scoring teams this season.

There is at least some relief for Lucknow with Rishabh Pant returning to full fitness after a recent elbow concern. His presence could provide much-needed stability, both behind the stumps and in the middle order.

Punjab’s dominance built on consistency

Punjab’s success has not been built on one-off performances but on sustained excellence across phases. Their opening combination has consistently delivered rapid starts, while Shreyas Iyer has anchored the middle overs with remarkable efficiency.

Iyer’s contributions have been particularly valuable in high-pressure chases, where he has repeatedly converted strong starts into winning finishes. His composed hand in Punjab’s successful chase against Mumbai Indians earlier this season stands out as a prime example, underlining his growing influence in pressure situations.

A challenge that demands a response

For Lucknow, the path forward is clear but far from easy. Their bowling attack, led by Mohammed Shami and supported by Prince Yadav, has shown promise with the new ball. Early breakthroughs remain their best hope of disrupting Punjab’s momentum.

However, unless their batting unit finds form soon, even strong bowling displays may not be enough. As PBKS stay unbeaten and continue to set the pace this season, Lucknow face mounting pressure to respond quickly and decisively.

Punjab march on with confidence and clarity. Lucknow, meanwhile, are left searching for answers before their campaign slips further out of reach.
