  • Rajasthan Royals post 159/6 before sealing dominant 40-run win over Lucknow Super Giants
  • Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 43 anchors innings after early collapse
  • Jofra Archer’s 3/20 and record milestone headline clinical bowling display

Rajasthan Royals rediscovered their winning touch with a composed 40-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium on Wednesday, as experience and execution came together at just the right moment.

After two successive defeats, including a setback against Kolkata Knight Riders where Rinku Singh guided KKR to a four-wicket victory in their previous outing, the Royals arrived under quiet scrutiny. They left with renewed confidence, built on the calm authority of Ravindra Jadeja and the cutting edge of Jofra Archer.

Rajasthan Royals 159 for 6 (Jadeja 43*, Mohsin 2-17) beat Lucknow Super Giants 119 (Marsh 55, Archer 3-20, Burger 2-27, Brijesh 2-18) by 40 runs.

Early Collapse Tests Rajasthan’s Resolve

The evening did not begin in reassuring fashion for Rajasthan. Asked to bat first, they slipped from promise to trouble in the space of a few deliveries. Yashasvi Jaiswal struck three crisp boundaries but fell attempting a fourth, edging behind off Mohammed Shami.

Shami then removed Dhruv Jurel off the very next ball, and within eight deliveries the Royals had lost three wickets without adding to the score.

Lucknow’s bowlers pressed their advantage impressively. Mohsin Khan delivered a wicket-maiden during the powerplay, while Prince Yadav returned figures of 2/29 to maintain control through the middle overs.

At 77/5, Rajasthan needed stability and substance. Jadeja delivered both.

Jadeja’s Calm Lifts Royals to Competitive 159/6

Measured yet assured, Jadeja rebuilt the innings with a composed unbeaten 43 off 29 balls. He first added 33 runs with Donovan Ferreira to take the side past 100, before combining with Shubham Dubey for a 49-run stand that lifted the Royals to 159/6 in 20 overs.

What looked like a modest total began to carry quiet weight, thanks largely to Jadeja’s composure under pressure.

Lucknow’s chase of 160 never quite settled. An early run-out of Ayush Badoni in the opening over set the tone, and wickets followed in quick succession. Archer struck early to remove key batters, bringing both control and menace to Rajasthan’s attack.

Amid the early damage, Mitchell Marsh mounted a resistance. His 55 off 41 balls, his first fifty of the season, kept Lucknow in the contest, while a 43-run partnership with Nicholas Pooran briefly steadied the innings.

That stand, however, proved decisive in its end. Jadeja broke through to dismiss Pooran, and when Marsh fell soon after, caught smartly in the deep, the chase began to unravel.

Archer returned to complete a superb spell of 3/20, sealing the result and becoming Rajasthan Royals’ all-time leading wicket-taker in the process. Lucknow were eventually restricted well short of the target, handing the Royals a convincing 40-run win.

Positives for Lucknow Despite Defeat

For Lucknow Super Giants, there were positives to take despite the defeat. Their bowlers had earlier limited Rajasthan to a below-par total, with Mohsin Khan’s 2/17 and a sharp fielding display standing out.

Yet with the bat, the required rate climbed steadily, and the chase slipped away under sustained pressure.

Rajasthan Royals, now with five wins from seven matches, will carry renewed belief into their next fixture at home. Lucknow, meanwhile, will look to regroup quickly as they prepare for their upcoming clash, aiming to build on the promise shown with the ball.
