A night that began with promise ended in frustration as Rishabh Pant was left searching for explanations after his Lucknow Super Giants side slumped to a 40 run defeat against the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. Chasing a modest 160, Lucknow Super Giants collapsed for 119, undone by a brittle batting effort that never found rhythm.

Rishabh Pant on Batting Collapse

Pant did not attempt to shift the narrative away from his team’s struggles, instead confronting the shortcomings head on. Speaking after the game, he cut a visibly disappointed figure. Pant said after the match:

“I don’t have answers. Batting has let us down. We are disappointed as a team, as a group.”

The captain acknowledged that his players failed to read the pitch conditions, a factor that proved decisive on a surface offering movement and assistance to the bowlers. Pant continued:

“You have to look for answers inside, not outside. We could have taken some time while batting. No excuses out there. Including myself, we could have taken it deeper. As a batting group, we have to put our hands up.”

Even in defeat, Pant pointed to a few encouraging signs, particularly the effort of Mohammed Shami, while maintaining belief in a turnaround.

“We have to look at positives. We have to keep our head high and look for answers inside. We have the firepower to turn the season around.”

Parag Stays Resilient Amid Personal Challenges

For Riyan Parag and the Rajasthan Royals, the conditions were always likely to play a role. The skipper noted that the pitch offered assistance to seamers who maintained discipline. Riyan said after the match:

“We knew it would swing, the lines and lengths they bowled, impressive. The message on the groups have been very positive.”

Parag also revealed he has been dealing with personal challenges, crediting his team for their support through a difficult phase.

“I had gone through something, even now I am going through something and everyone understands that”.

Jadeja Delivers and Dedicate

The evening was shaped in large part by Ravindra Jadeja, whose unbeaten 43 steadied the innings before providing a late surge. His composure on a tricky surface made a telling difference.

He later dedicated his performance to his wife Rivaba Jadeja, acknowledging her encouragement ahead of the fixture. He said at the presentation ceremony:

“I want to dedicate the award to the education minister wife Rivaba Jadeja of Gujarat. She said yesterday that I will do well and I did.”

Jadeja admitted that batting was far from straightforward, with movement through the air and off the pitch keeping players cautious.

“Wicket was not easy to bat because the ball was seaming and swinging. I wanted to play long as much as I can. In T20 cricket, you never know last over you can cash in and we did.”

His calculated assault in the closing stages against Mayank Yadav proved decisive, underlining his experience in pressure moments.

“Not easy coming back from injury. I was just backing my strength. I was telling my partner to wait and go after the bowling.”

Jadeja also sparked excitement among supporters with an animated celebration after dismissing Nicholas Pooran, later explaining his approach with the ball. Jadeja commented:

“The ball was gripping so I was thinking whether I should bowl quicker or slow. When bowling slow, I got some hold and that helped.”

While Pant and Lucknow Super Giants are left to reflect on a missed opportunity against Rajasthan Royals, the tournament moves quickly. There remains time to regroup and respond, though as the captain admitted, the answers must come from within. See the complete set of upcoming fixtures here.
