  • Rabada and Siraj dominate powerplay as CSK collapse derails innings
  • Gaikwad fights alone with 74 but lack of support proves costly
  • Sudharsan’s explosive 87 powers Gujarat Titans to a composed chase

Gujarat Titans produced a composed and clinical display to brush aside Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets, with pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada and the ever assured Sai Sudharsan leading the charge in a result that reshaped the middle of the table.

From the outset, this contest tilted sharply in Gujarat’s favour. Their new ball pairing dismantled Chennai’s top order with precision and menace, exposing a misread of conditions by the home side.

While Chennai anticipated a surface that would favour spin later on, it was pace and bounce that dictated terms. View the full scorecard from the match here.

Rabada Rips Through CSK

Rabada set the tone. After a slightly expensive opening over, he recalibrated swiftly and struck twice in his next spell, removing key batters and halting any early momentum.

Reflecting on his performance, Rabada acknowledged an imperfect start before finding his rhythm:

“I honestly felt I did not start very well today. But that is how cricket goes, and I am just glad I could still contribute and play my part in getting the win.”

Alongside him, Mohammed Siraj maintained relentless pressure. Chennai stumbled to 28 for 3 in the powerplay, one of their lowest returns this season, and never fully recovered.

Rabada finished with 3 for 25 and 15 dot balls, underlining his control and ability to dictate phases of play.

Gaikwad Stands Tall in Isolation

Amid the collapse, Ruturaj Gaikwad offered resistance with a determined unbeaten 74. His innings was less about fluency and more about survival and structure.

Boundaries were scarce for Chennai through the middle overs, with Gujarat squeezing the scoring for more than five overs without a single four.

Gaikwad absorbed pressure, faced a high number of dot balls, and ensured his side posted 158 for 7, a total that felt slightly below par given the conditions.

Gaikwad later pointed to the challenging nature of the surface and the impact of early wickets:

“It was a bit challenging because the wicket was two paced with uneven bounce. If we had not lost early wickets, we could have reached a more competitive total.”

The decision to introduce an Impact Player early reflected urgency but did not yield results, further compounding Chennai’s struggles.

Sudharsan Steers a Polished Chase

If Chennai’s innings was fragmented, Gujarat’s reply was measured and confident. Led by Sudharsan, the chase unfolded with clarity of purpose.

The left hander followed up his previous century with a sparkling 87 from 46 deliveries, striking seven sixes and controlling the tempo throughout. His ability to find boundaries at key moments ensured the required rate never became a concern.

Gujarat raced past 100 quicker than Chennai reached their fifty, a contrast that highlighted the difference in execution between the sides.

Captain Shubman Gill praised his team’s awareness and discipline after the match:

“Very happy to get a win like this because it is never easy here. Apart from the final overs with the ball, it was a complete performance.”

Tactical Edge Proves Decisive

The match ultimately hinged on Gujarat’s dominance in the powerplay. Their 55 without loss in the chase stood in stark contrast to Chennai’s early collapse. By controlling both phases, Gujarat removed uncertainty from the equation.

Rabada also highlighted the growing cohesion within the bowling unit and the clarity in their approach:

“Working alongside Siraj has been great because all the fast bowlers are clear with their plans and tactics. Seeing the pace group come together has been very enjoyable.”

For Chennai, the defeat exposed issues in adaptability. A misjudged surface and early wickets left them chasing the game from the outset, despite Gaikwad’s resilience.

A Shifting Landscape

The victory lifts Gujarat Titans into the top half of the standings, while Chennai Super Kings slip further back, still searching for consistency.

On a warm evening in Chennai, the home crowd held onto hope deep into the chase. Yet as Sudharsan’s innings gathered pace, the result became inevitable. By the closing stages, the stands began to thin, a quiet acknowledgement of a contest that had long slipped away.
