Rajasthan Royals Pull Off Stunning 228-Run Chase
Rajasthan Royals looked under pressure midway through the chase before Donovan Ferreira and Shubham Dubey flipped the script in stunning fashion.
The duo stitched together a match-defining 77-run partnership off just 32 balls, dismantling the Punjab Kings attack in the closing stages. What seemed a demanding finish quickly became a controlled march to victory, completed with four balls to spare. Ferreira stayed unbeaten on 52 off 22 balls, delivering a decisive late surge.
Punjab Post a Formidable Total
Punjab Kings earlier set a daunting 222 for 4 in 20 overs, thanks largely to a blistering late charge from Marcus Stoinis. The Australian all rounder hammered an unbeaten 62 off only 22 deliveries, transforming a strong total into a commanding one.
Prabhsimran Singh provided stability with a fluent 59 off 35 balls. Meanwhile Priyansh Arya’s fearless hitting gave Punjab early momentum in the powerplay.
Rajasthan Bowlers Keep Things in Check
Yuzvendra Chahal led Rajasthan Royals’ bowling effort with figures of 3 for 36 in his four overs. The 35 year old struck at key moments to halt Punjab’s progress. The spin attack maintained control through the middle overs, ensuring the scoring rate did not spiral completely out of reach despite Punjab collecting 62 runs in the final four overs.
Explosive Start Sets Up the Chase
Rajasthan Royals came out firing in response, driven by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive 43 off just 16 balls. His early assault put Punjab on the back foot, helping Rajasthan race past 50 inside three overs. After his dismissal, Yashasvi Jaiswal took charge, compiling a stylish 51 off 26 balls and keeping the chase firmly on track.
Finishing Touch Defines the Contest
With 72 required off the final six overs at a run rate of 12.00, the game was evenly poised. Ferreira and Dubey then accelerated with authority, capitalising on wayward bowling at the death.
Punjab’s seamers struggled to contain the pressure, conceding heavily in the closing overs. Ferreira sealed the win in emphatic fashion with a towering six over long on. That brought up his half century and completed a memorable chase, as Rajasthan Royals finished on 228 for 4 in 19.2 overs.
