It was a night where records tumbled and expectations were rewritten at the Wankhede Stadium. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) chased down a daunting 244, registering not just a famous win but one that now sits among the most significant in Indian Premier League history. View the full scorecard from the match here.

The scale of the chase tells its own story. This was the highest successful T20 chase at the Wankhede and the fourth highest in IPL history. For SRH, it marked their second biggest chase ever, reinforcing their growing reputation as one of the most dangerous batting sides in the tournament.

Record Breaking Chase at Wankhede: The Key Numbers

Powerplay Pressure Turns the Game

The match was effectively shaped in the first six overs. SRH raced to 92 in the powerplay, while Mumbai Indians had earlier scored 78 in the same phase. A combined 170 runs made it one of the most explosive starts ever seen at the venue.

Mumbai’s bowlers equalled their worst powerplay figures, conceding 92 runs, leaving captain Hardik Pandya searching for answers. Yet even that number does not stand out as much this season, highlighting how aggressive the batting approach has become across teams.

Sixes Steal the Spotlight

The contest turned into a showcase of power hitting, with 32 sixes struck across both innings. It is the highest number recorded in an IPL match at the Wankhede and among the top tallies this season.

SRH’s ability to maintain that tempo through the chase proved decisive, as they consistently kept the required rate under control.

Bumrah’s Tough Outing Reflects a Bigger Trend

Even elite bowlers found little relief. Jasprit Bumrah conceded 54 runs in his four overs, one of the most expensive spells of his T20 career. His current season average of 132 further highlights the challenges bowlers are facing in this high scoring IPL.

Rickelton’s Record Knock Overshadowed

Despite the loss, Ryan Rickelton delivered a standout performance with 123, the highest score by a Mumbai Indians batter in IPL history. It eclipsed the long standing record held by Sanath Jayasuriya.

Mumbai posted 243, their highest total when batting first, but it was still not enough. Notably, their three highest totals in IPL history have all ended in defeat.

A Milestone Win for SRH

The victory also brought up SRH’s 100th IPL win, making them the eighth team to reach the milestone. More importantly, it underlined a clear pattern this season, where even the biggest totals are no longer safe.

SRH’s chase was not just about power, it was about control, intent and a growing belief that no target is out of reach.
