Mumbai Indians produced a stirring display at the Wankhede Stadium to secure a much-needed victory, chasing down a daunting target against Lucknow Super Giants in a high-scoring thriller.

The home side rode on commanding knocks from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton to overhaul 229, finishing on 229 for 4 in 18.4 overs and winning by six wickets, handing Lucknow a sixth straight defeat that leaves them anchored to the foot of the table.

Mumbai Indians 229 for 4 (Rohit 84, Rickelton 83, Siddharth 2-47) beat Lucknow Super Giants 228 for 5 (Pooran 63, Marsh 44, Bosch 2-20) by six wickets. View the full scorecard here.

Rohit’s Explosive Comeback Sets the Tone

The chase began with purpose and soon turned into a spectacle. Rohit Sharma, returning after a five-match absence due to a hamstring injury, looked sharp despite an uncertain start.

A few early play-and-miss moments did little to slow him down as he quickly found rhythm and began dictating terms. Once settled, he unfurled a range of strokes, flicking with ease and punishing anything loose. His half-century came off 27 balls and he carried on with authority before departing for 84 off 44 balls.

Rickelton Brings Relentless Firepower

At the other end, Ryan Rickelton ensured there was no let-up. The left-hander continued his impressive form at the venue, striking 83 off just 32 balls.

His intent was clear from the outset as he launched into the attack with clean hitting and fearless strokeplay. Together, the pair put on a 143-run opening stand that effectively broke the back of the chase.

By the time Rohit fell in the 14th over, Mumbai needed 52 off 36 balls. The finishing touches were applied without fuss as the hosts sealed a memorable win, now their highest successful chase at the Wankhede Stadium.

Pooran’s Brilliance in Vain for LSG

For much of the evening, it seemed Lucknow had seized control. Nicholas Pooran lit up the contest with a breathtaking assault, smashing 63 from just 21 balls in an innings that combined power with audacity.

His knock threatened to push Mumbai out of the contest entirely, with the visitors appearing set for a total well beyond 240.

Yet Mumbai found a way to claw things back. Their bowlers tightened the screws at the death, conceding just one boundary in the final three overs to restrict Lucknow Super Giants to 228 for 5 in 20 overs.

Support came in patches. Mitchell Marsh contributed 44 while Himmat Singh added an unbeaten 40 off 31 balls. However, Lucknow lost momentum in the closing overs.

The final push never quite materialised, with the last five overs yielding only 53 runs, leaving them short of an even more imposing total.

In the end, Mumbai’s batting depth and composure under pressure proved too strong. The victory halts their recent slide after three consecutive losses and injects fresh belief into their campaign. Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants are left searching for answers as their difficult run continues.
