The ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 season has been a disaster for Jasprit Bumrah. With just three wickets in ten matches, he is enduring an unusually quiet campaign. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes the problem isn’t a lack of effort, but that Bumrah is trying to do too much and, in the process, losing his natural rhythm.
Bumrah is struggling with a lack of wickets, as well as the no-balls he has bowled this season. In the IPL 2026, the 32-year-old has bowled eight no-balls, three of which came on Monday night against the Lucknow Super Giants. During the 14th over of the game, he bowled two no-balls, which prompted Sunil Gavaskar to express his anger at the Indian ace pacer.
Sunil Gavaskar Highlights Jasprit Burmah’s Problem
As the Mumbai Indians match against Lucknow Super Giants was going on, Gavaskar highlighted the areas in which the fast bowler was having difficulty.
“Bumrah is giving his best, but he seems to be trying too many extra things. He is creating wicket-taking chances, but luck is not on his side.
“His pace has also dropped he is overdoing things, and that’s hurting him. He should go back to his basics and stick to what works best for him. Trying new things is affecting his rhythm, and luck isn’t helping either.”
Jasprit Bumrah is widely regarded as one of the game’s finest bowlers, known for his precision and control. This phase, however, has been defined by small things repeatedly going wrong. Even on nights when Mumbai Indians are cruising to victory, no-balls, slight drift in line, and a subtle drop in tempo have continued to add up.
“His go-to slower ball length has become fuller. The line that used to target the stumps is now drifting to the leg stump. He is not known for bowling many no-balls, but this season he has already bowled six or seven.”

Mumbai Indians Get Win Over Lucknow Super Giants
Meanwhile, it was a tough outing for Jasprit Bumrah, who went wicketless in his four overs and conceded 45 runs. With Lucknow Super Giants posting 229, his spell was expected to be crucial for Mumbai Indians. However, the batting lineup ultimately carried the team through.
As the team went for the chase, both the openers, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, set the tone of the match. Both the openers took on a strong partnership of 143 runs for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma, who made a comeback for the team, scored 84 runs off 44 balls.
That strong batting display carried MI to a six-wicket win—only their third victory of the season. However, the team will need Jasprit Bumrah at his best in their upcoming clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
