Bangladesh produced a stirring fightback in Mirpur to claim their first-ever home Test victory over Pakistan with a commanding 104-run triumph at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.

The hosts wrapped up the win in dramatic fashion on the final evening as Pakistan crumbled from 68-2 to 163 all out while chasing 268. The collapse handed Bangladesh a deserved 1-0 lead in the two-match series and extended their growing dominance over Pakistan in the longest format.

Nahid Rana Destroys Pakistan in Final Session

At the heart of the victory was tearaway quick Nahid Rana whose fiery spell of 5-40 ripped through the visitors during a gripping final session. The young fast bowler delivered with pace and precision as Bangladesh sensed history within reach.

Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam also played key roles with two wickets each as Bangladesh’s attack piled pressure on Pakistan late in the day.

Shanto and Mominul Lay the Foundation

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto led from the front with a magnificent 101 in the first innings while Mominul Haque added a fluent 91 to steer Bangladesh to 413.

Rain interruptions across days three and four threatened to derail the contest but Bangladesh approached the final morning with bold intent. Shanto struck 87 in the second innings while Mominul chipped in with 56 as the hosts declared on 240-9 before lunch to force a result.

Bangladesh Beat Pakistan Again After 2024 Success

This latest success marks Bangladesh’s third straight Test victory over Pakistan following their landmark away series win in 2024.

For a side once criticised for inconsistency the Tigers now appear to be building genuine momentum on the international stage with another disciplined and fearless display.

Pakistan Show Promise but Collapse Under Pressure

Pakistan responded strongly in the first innings thanks to 21-year-old opener Azan Awais who announced himself with a composed 103 on Test debut. His innings helped the tourists reach 386 and reduce the deficit to just 27 runs.

Abdullah Fazal later battled hard for 66 in the fourth innings but wickets continued to tumble around him as Pakistan failed to survive the final day.

A delighted Shanto praised his side’s fearless approach after the match.

“We believed in our bowling attack and the way they responded was outstanding. Rana Taskin and Taijul showed real character in those conditions and everyone contributed to an important win,” he said.

Bangladesh Eye Historic Series Sweep in Sylhet

The second and final Test begins in Sylhet on Saturday with Bangladesh now chasing a historic series sweep against their South Asian rivals.
