At a glance

  • Beaten finalists in the last two tournaments
  • Shabnim Ismail picked after reversing retirement
  • Marizanne Kapp returns after injury

South Africa welcome back Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp to their T20 World Cup squad. The beaten finalists for the last two tournaments will be looking to go one better this time around. However, there are in the same group as Australia and India, so it won’t be an easy task.

Squad list

Ismail had retired, but reversed this decision to make herself available for selection. Kapp, on the other hand, returns to the squad after an injury lay-off. There is a mix of experience and new players, within the squad, but only two players with less than 10 caps.

Prediction

I like South Africa as a team. However, they are in a very difficult group alongside Australia and India, with only the top two progressing. That means they will likely need to beat one of those sides to reach the semi-finals. It is a tough challenge, but certainly not an impossible one.
