South Africa have received a major boost ahead of this summer’s Women’s T20 World Cup in England with pace star Shabnim Ismail ending her international retirement and returning to the Proteas squad.

The 37-year-old quick remains one of the most feared bowlers in the women’s game and returns as South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in T20 internationals. Despite stepping away from the national side more than three years ago she still boasts an outstanding record of 123 wickets at an average of 18.62.

Her comeback adds fresh firepower to a South African side eager to go one step further after finishing runners-up in each of the last two Women’s T20 World Cups.

There was further good news for the Proteas selectors with experienced all-rounder Marizanne Kapp returning after recovering from illness. Former captain Dane van Niekerk also earns a place in the squad following her recovery from a calf injury after making her own return to the international fold over the past year.
